The Indian salon industry is very well equipped and up to date with its advancements. However, there is one magical liquid that isn’t used widely in the salon industry yet. This liquid is paraffin wax. Paraffin wax is widely used in beauty and cosmetic products to achieve soft and smooth skin. The market is filled with a plethora of waxing products, equipment and other items that help you achieve smooth skin. We’ve taken you through a wide range of waxes and its flavours to specifically suit your skin needs. We at BIOSOFT are here to breakdown - What exactly is paraffin wax and what are its uses?

What is Paraffin wax?

Paraffin wax is made from saturated hydrocarbons. It is available in a variety of colours and flavours. The flavours of Paraffin wax include peach, aloe vera, shea butter and more.

Where can we use paraffin wax?

It’s often used in skin-softening salon and spa treatments on the hands, cuticles, and feet. The chemical properties of paraffin wax give it the ability to retain heat, large molecules that stay on the surface of the skin, and an elastic and soft texture. These characteristics make paraffin wax perfect to cling to the skin surface, trap moisture, enhance blood circulation, and help the skin in the absorption of moisturizing and nourishing ingredients.

How do we use paraffin wax?

Pre-care

The skin has to be prepared with a pre care gel or lotion to sanitize the skin. It is then dried thoroughly. It is important to apply a layer of non-oily hydrating lotion before dipping your hands and feet into the wax.

Application

Paraffin wax is applied in layers. After applying one layer, the clients’ hands are removed for a few minutes till the wax hardens. After this, a few more layers are added in the same fashion. You can either dip your clients hand’s directly into the paraffin wax or apply it with the help of a brush. The more layers, the more the paraffin conducts heat deeper into the skin. After four to six layers, the hands are lined with gloves and a warm towel to create insulation. This helps in creating more hydration and better results.

Removal

After 15-20 minutes, once the wax is hard and has cooled off, the glove is removed and the wax is peeled off. The wax comes off very easily, after which the wax is discarded. The wax is a natural emollient, helping make skin supple and soft.

Is the wax too hot?

Paraffin wax has a unique feature that it has a very low melting point. Due to this, it melts easily at a low temperature. This makes it easier for the client to dip their hands and feet into the liquid, while hydrating and moisturizing the skin. The paraffin must be prepared in a special paraffin bath, which is a kind of tub where you can dip the client's hand or foot.

Benefits of Paraffin Wax

Pain Relief therapy

Paraffin wax acts as heat therapy and helps increase blood flow, relax muscles, and decrease joint stiffness. Paraffin wax can also minimize muscle spasms and swelling as well as treat sprains.

Improves the appearance of skin

Paraffin wax enhances circulation to the skin, prompts skin detoxification and relaxation. It allows pores to open and get unclogged. This facilitates moisturizing ingredients to penetrate into the skin. It helps make the skin glowy and smooth and also rejuvenates the appearance of the skin. Paraffin wax is most widely used for manicures and pedicures. However, a lot of salons also provide paraffin facials.

Moisturizes dry skin

Paraffin wax provides intensive hydration for severely dry skin. People dealing with skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis can get relief from paraffin wax. It has the property of providing extreme moisturization, which improves the skin barrier while also preventing water loss. The most common use of paraffin wax for hydration is for very dry, rough areas such as elbows, knees, feet, and hands.
